Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Human Body

A good amount of sleep is very essential for a sound body and mind. Sleep deprivation can have a profound consequences on our body. If a person doesn’t get enough sleep for a day he or she may feel grumpy or very tired for the next day. But if that person lacks of sleep for a long term it can have severe effects on body.

Firstly, lack of sleep for a long time can weaken the immune system of our body. So our immune system will not be able to defend our body from several diseases as it should be. Then, getting sick will be easier.

Secondly, Sleep deprivation can affect our nervous system. During sleep neurons forms pathways between them which helps us to remember things. Sleep deprivation leaves our brains exhausted so this process can’t be happened as its usual flow. Again, sleep deprivation affects on mental and emotional states. People having sleep deprivation will feel more prone to mood swings or more impatience than others. People can see hallucinations due to sleep deprivation. Other psychological risks include anxiety, depression, paranoia, suicidal thoughts and many more.

Thirdly, this also may cause ‘microsleep’ to people. People will sleep deprivation may fell sleep for a few several seconds without realizing it. Microsleep can be very dangerous when driving or while working with heavy machineries.

Again, continual sleeping problem may effect weight gaining problem. Sleep deprivation may increase emission of ‘ghrelin’ in the stomach which can make a person feel more hungry. Over time, sleep deprivation impacts the body’s metabolism and eating habits. It also can decrease stamina and normal physical activities.

Also, Sleep deprivation can lower a person’s sex drive. Not only this, but it can also have a devastating for a person trying to conceive. Regular getting less than 7 hours of sleep can lead to lower levels of testosterone and hormones which causes ovulation.

There are many more health problems which can be happened because of sleep deprivation. Lastly, we can say that we need to offer our body regular amount of sleep to keep hour body and mind healthy. Research says, most of us need 8 hours of regular sleep. We also need to sleep early and wake up early as well.
