Drawbacks of Our Education System
Education in Bangladesh is memorization based and bookish knowledge driven. Students from an early age are expected to perform well in exams and obtain good marks in exams. Most well reputed schools hold admission tests, and small children are sent to coaching or learning centers to be prepared for their admission tests. Students go through many levels of education pre primary school, primary school, secondary school, higher secondary school known as collages and then higher educational institutions known as universities.
Education system is very rigid. A great emphasis is given on feeding students with information ,listening lectures ,memorization but the culture of inspiring students to ask questions, see the things in their own way, help to build their own thought process, find their own individuality, motivating students to think and imagine is not done. Most of the teachers do not have sufficient knowledge and training about how to teach properly. Also most teachers do not understand the need to build a safe and comfortable environment for the students where the students will feel energized and eager to learn, gain confidence in their own selves and be able to have healthy interaction with their teachers to fulfill their thirst of knowledge.
Moreover most importance is placed on exams and preparation for exams.School and colleges are focused on training students for certain examinations and it has been ingrained in students' mindset to perform well in those examinations and it is also the main goal. Exam scores, rank determine whether or not a student is successful. Students are burdened with homeworks and exams. Students go through a continuous process of evaluation of how able they are, students are compared among themselves. But in these processes the most important of all the evaluation of learning is somehow missed and ignored.
Also Students are deprived of the joy of learning.Students should be provided with such an learning environment where they will be able to explore and find the subjects they are interested in and be able to identify subjects they are good at.Quality education should be prioritized rather than training students for passing examinations. If proper educational environment and proper way of teaching is ensured and students are able to learn with joy and interest then good result is also naturally attainable.
